Price by board type

The prices on this page come from Gallardía's installation rate card: labour, tools and equipment only. They do not include materials or the ITBMS tax, and they are indicative; the final price is confirmed after a free site visit.
ActivityUnitInstallation price
Standard 12.7 mm plasterboard (dry areas), both facesB/. 7.50
12.7 mm moisture-resistant green board (bathrooms, kitchens, laundries)B/. 10.00
12.7 mm fire-rated board, pink typeB/. 10.00

The price is per square metre of wall, boarded on both faces. So if your partition is 3 m long by 2.60 m high, that is 7.80 m², not 15.60 m².

Which board goes where

Standard board (white) — B/. 7.50 per m²

For partitions in living rooms, bedrooms, corridors and offices — anywhere dry and ventilated. It is the cheapest option and does its job perfectly well as long as sustained moisture never reaches it.

Moisture-resistant green board — B/. 10.00 per m²

Mandatory in bathrooms, kitchens and laundries. In Panama I would extend it to rooms opening onto uncovered patios, to walls next to washing areas, and to any premises in a coastal zone. Relative humidity here does not forgive: a standard board in the wrong place swells, stains and eventually crumbles along its bottom edge.

The difference is B/. 2.50 per square metre. On an 8 m² wall that is B/. 20.00 more. Set against rebuilding the wall in two years, there is no argument.

Fire-rated pink board — B/. 10.00 per m²

Fire resistance. It is required in service risers, plant rooms, escape routes, commercial kitchens and wherever the building regulations or the fire service demand it. If you are fitting out a commercial unit or office, check the requirement before buying material: changing it later means stripping everything out.

Worked example: splitting a room

A 3.00 m long by 2.60 m high partition in a dry area, painted on both faces:

ActivityQuantityUnit priceLine total
Standard 12.7 mm plasterboard, both faces7.80 m²B/. 7.50 / m²B/. 58.50
Washable vinyl emulsion paint (7.80 m² × 2 faces)15.60 m²B/. 5.00 / m²B/. 78.00
TOTAL LABOURB/. 136.50

Watch the detail: the board is priced per m² of wall (both faces included), but the paint is priced per m² of painted surface, so you count both faces. It is the most common calculation error we see.

If you have to demolish first

ActivityUnitInstallation price
Demolition of lightweight drywall partition, metal or timber framedB/. 7.50
Demolition of cement board or Durock partition with metal framingB/. 10.00
Demolition of 10 cm block wall, including edge patching and clean-upB/. 12.50
Demolition of 15 cm block wall, including edge patching and clean-upB/. 15.00
Haulage and final disposal of wasteB/. 45.00

Taking down drywall is quick and cheap: B/. 7.50 per m², and the waste is light. Taking down a 15 cm block wall costs twice as much and generates far more weight. If your remodel can be solved by moving lightweight partitioning instead of masonry, the saving is real.

Drywall against block: when each one wins

Drywall wins when you want speed, when the structure cannot take more weight — typical on upper floors of a condominium — and when the partition might move again later. It goes up clean, with no water, no mortar and no curing days.

Block wins when the wall is external, when you need to hang heavy loads without special backing, when acoustic separation between dwellings matters, or when the wall will take constant knocks.

For reference: No. 4 block masonry is B/. 12.50 per m² and No. 6 block B/. 15.00 per m², plus render at B/. 7.50 per m² and skim coat at B/. 5.00 per m². Adding render and skim, a finished block wall comfortably exceeds B/. 25.00 per m² in labour against B/. 7.50 for drywall. The gap is large, but so is the difference in performance.

How long it takes

A drywall partition of 8 to 10 m² goes up in 1 or 2 working days: framing, boarding, joint treatment and filling. Add a day for the filler to dry before painting.

A suspended ceiling or partitions in a standard space usually takes 2 to 5 working days. After the site visit we give you a schedule specific to your project.
